Billabong Pro Santa Catarina 2010: Final Day On
If all goes well, today will be the final day of competition. The crowds are tense as they await to see who will be crowned the champion of the Billabong Pro Santa Catarina.
The third event of 10 on the 2010 ASP World Tour, the Billabong Pro Santa Catarina is definitely going to rearrange the ASP World Rankings.
Owen Wright, the 2010 ASP World Tour rookie who suprisingly eliminated Bede Durbidge in Round 3, is thrilled to proceed on to Round 4 of competition.
“I’m rapt to make it into the fourth round,” Wright said. “Bede Durbidge is an amazing surfer and every year he competes here, he gets the best waves. Fortunately, I was able to get in a rhythm out there and there wasn’t anything left for him.”
Owen Wright will face Jeremy Flores in Round 4.
Mick Fanning, reigning two-time ASP World Champion, experienced a relatively mediocre start in Brazil, but hit his straps today with an emphatic Round 3 win over Neco Padaratz (BRA), 33. The Australian lacerated the running righthanders and appears to be building momentum as the event draws to a close.
“Neco Padaratz is a tough opponent when he’s here at home,” Fanning said. “He knows the wave really well and puts everything into his surfing.I’m feeling good and looking forward to a big finish whenever we run again.”
The ASP International Head Judge, Richie Porta has high hopes for the final day of competition.
“The surf has dropped slightly but it’s still very clean and contestable and we’ll be getting underway this morning at 7:30am,” said Porta. “We expect to crown a champion by day’s end to so good luck to all our remaining competitors.”
First up in the final day of the 2010 Billabong Pro Santa Catarina will be ASP World Champion Mick Fanning and Taylor Knox in Heat 5 of Round 4.
