ASP World Qualifying Series 2010: Irish Surfer Glenn Hall Wins
The 2010 ASP World Qualifying series in Australia was an impressive display of raw surfing talent. Winner Glenn Hall is honored to take the podium, but is just getting used to the feeling.
Newcastle, Australia – Irish surfer Glenn Hall is the winner of the 2010 ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) in Australia. The Irish athlete has claimed top honours at the Burton Toyota Pro, an ASP WQS 4-Star rated competition.
Glenn Hall defeated South African Brandon Jackson in the finals of the WQS with a score of 16.67 out of a possible 20.
“Newcastle is a great contest and great fun,” Hall said. “I won $300 here when I was 14 and convinced Mum to let me use it to enter the WQS event the next week… I’ve never really been on the podium all that much and it’s a real honor to be here when I think about all the great surfers that have won this competition.”
Hall almost qualified for the ASP World Tour in 2009 and had never won an ASP sanctioned event until this one, previously only achieving a couple of 3rd places in back-to-back ASP WQS 5-Star events in Zarautz and Pantin, Spain.
Hall, who decided to become an Irish national three years ago, kept the European flag high again in the 2010 edition and his impressive accomplishments were acknowledged with a ton of ratings points and prize money.
With ASP legend Mark Richards as his forerunner, Glenn Hall was crowned by the man himself, a former Four-time ASP World Champion.
"Mark Richards has always been a hero to me and to have him here today when I won is just terrific," Hall said.
Glenn Hall a.k.a Micro unleashed his impressive backside style and attacks in Australia to finish atop a solid a 112-Man format ousting current ASP World Title race athlete Drew Courtney, Top WQS soldier Shaun Gossmann and former elite member Darren O’Rafferty on his way to victory.
From this point on, only the best can be expected from 2010 ASP World Qualifying Series winner, Glenn Hall.
