Conlogue Claims 2012 Telstra Drug Aware Pro
Conlogue was dominant on the final day of 2012 Telstra Drug Aware Pro, topping Australians Kirby Wright and Rebecca Woods with convincing victories, and continued to dominate in the final over Manuel, defeating the Hawaiian by a score of 16.23 to 11.07.
Courtney Conlogue has taken out her second consecutive ASP 6-Star Women’s Telstra Drug Aware Pro Title, defeating ASP World Tour rookie Malia Manuel after a week of amazing waves delivered at Margaret River.
“I was trying not to think about going back-to-back too much because I didn’t want to put pressure on myself,” Courtney Conlogue said. “I’m stoked to have gotten two in a row. This place taught me a lot last year and the years before. Now I’m looking forward to going to Bells because this place is great training for down there.”
The Californian finished equal 5th at the ASP World Title season opening Roxy Pro Gold Coast and will be competing at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford Fiesta from April 3 through 9, 2011.
While Conlogue found success in Western Australia, fellow Californian Taylor Jensen maintained his winning form in Kingscilff, New South Wales at the ASP LQS 3-Star Australian Longboard Surfing Open. The reigning ASP World Longboard Champion held off fellow elite ASP WLT campaigner Harley Ingleby, with a 16.26 heat total.
“You had to go for anything that looked like it might wall up and that first one walled up on the inside for me and halfway through the heat I could see that second one would wall up so I was happy to get those two in,” Jensen said. “I was confident nothing was going to come through and offer the mid-8 score he needed on the inside so I sat out back to make sure if the bomb came through I had it protected.”
Jennifer Smith was also successful in the women’s ASP LQS division, finishing runner-up to eventual event winner Chelsea Williams.
The first 2012 ASP Men’s Star event will unfold this week at Huntington Beach, with the Vans Pier Classic, running from March 28 through April 1.

The Santa Surf Pro Junior will launch the 5-steps process towards a European Junior Title in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The 2012 event will be the only 3-Star rated event in this year’s series, thus counting the most towards the European title and qualification for the World Junior Tour.
Surfline, official forecasters for the 2012 ASP Vans Pier Classic, are calling for a combination of swells to build throughout the week, with a peak expected for the final day of competition.
