2010 PWA Costa Teguise World Cup

Costa Teguise holds no surprises as Jose Estredo and Sarah-Quita Offringa dominate their competition and win the event. The finals were close, but these two champions have plenty of tricks up their sleeves for when the going gets tough.

With only one event this year, the women’s 2010 PWA freestyle world tour is already over and Offringa has been crowned world champion once again.

The intense week of competition began disappointingly with low winds on opening day in Costa Teguise. An amazing forty four wind surfers turned up to battle it out at the Lanzarote World Cup.

On day two the bay had ideal conditions with 15-20 knot winds, providing enough time to almost complete the first round.

The final day ran smoothly with sufficient winds, allowing the heats to continue on schedule. By the end of the morning the champions had been announced.

From the very beginning the freestyle wonder kid, and ‘Four Dimensions’ star, Gollito Estredo held the upper hand on the rest of the fleet.

In the finals, Estredo was well matched with Kiri Thode, and many thought that Thode had a chance. However, Estredo showed them who's boss with a faultless one-handed regular chachoo – technically the most difficult move in the book.

After this move, Kiri Thode didn't have a chance.

Sarah-Quita Offringa flew through her early heats with ease and claimed her place in the winner’s final.

However, the final was not so easy with Yoli Freites De Brendt at the top of her game. De Brendt gave it her all and was flying round tricks such as spock 540s and flakas right on cue.

It was close, but Offringa did what she does best and earned the championship title with a switch chachoo, one-handed spock 540, and a flaka diablo.
