Rip Curl Rail Sessions 2009 in Munich
Once again, Munich’s Olympiapark offers the perfect setting for an international snowboard happening. Some of the world’s best athletes will take part in the Munich edition of the Rip Curl Rail Sessions on February 2nd 2009.
The rail set-up will be challenging! One 10-meter down-rail and one 10-meter down-flatdown-rail will be built on the stairs of the Theatron amphitheatre. The legendary Olympic Swim Hall and Munich’s TV tower will be the backdrop for this extraordinary event. When the sun sets, lights will go on in the Theatron and will transform the venue into a unique rail arena! The rail features will allow some of the most radical jib action that has been seen so far.
24 riders will be invited in total. 16 have to go through a first round. The best 8 of the qualification round will meet the 8 pre-qualified riders in the main session! Among the seeded top riders are Halldor and Eiki Helgason (ISL), Max Legend (CAN), Nils Arvidsson (SWE), Basti Rittig (GER), Victor Delerue (FRA) and Peter König (AUT). 10.000 Euros will be up for grabs in the finals of the best eight riders. The three top ranked will get wildcards to the 5-star TTR contest Crans-Montana Champs Open in Switzerland (Feb 4-8, 2009).
The Rip Curl Rail Sessions are part of a series of four events. Les Deux Alpes/FRA, Modena/ITA and Lausanne/SUI were the other locations. These events offered rookie riders the possibility to gain contest experience and to qualify for the Crans-Montana Champs Open. The Munich edition is the last session of the series and a pure pro snowboard contest with a strict invitational character.
The event will take place on February 2nd 2009 which will be during the ISPO trade show. The venue will open its doors at 5 pm! The entrance to the event is free!
Winds gusting up to 140 km/hour and flat light combined caused the TTR 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam to be called off. Event organizers cancelled the competition after assessing the difficult weather conditions.
The 10th annual Burton European Open (BEO) is gearing up to be one of the season’s most exciting snowboard events as many of the world’s best riders get ready to compete in Laax, Switzerland from Jan. 9 till 16, 2009.
