High class contest and happy moods at the 24th Kaunertal Opening

Highly anticipated it finally snowed on Monday before the event weekend and guaranteed a perfectly shaped park and therefore the realisation of the contests.

Julia Baumgartner at KTO 2009.  Copyright: HostAbout 10.000 people from different countries were flocking to the snow covered Feichten for the 24th Kaunertal Opening this weekend. Not only did they come for some powder action but also to test the new season’s stuff and to party like rock stars.

The action already started on Friday with the premiere of the rail session at the parking lot up at the mountain. Winners are the 2008 „ Freeski Rocker“ Roy Kittler (GER) and the snowboarder Stefan Grumser (A).

The other side events such as the art exhibiton EYE5 and the video corner were also well visited – all in all once more a successful Opening 2009. Stefan Richter from the Kaunertaler Gletscherbahnen about the Opening: "The 24th Kaunertal Opening will go down as one of the most wintry season openings ever! More than one meter of fresh powder within a week and temperatures below zero proved once more the reliable snow conditions of the Kaunertal. The perfectly shaped park is officially opened now and is going to be reshaped per hand daily and to grow even bigger.“

The top riders from snowboard and freeski, who took part in the Pro contest on Saturday, were also attracting lots of people this year. The organisation team on the mountain were doing a great job and took care of a smooth contest even tough fog and wind were giving them a pretty hard time. The riders had a fun time with the new and challenging obstacles in the mini shred park – the snowboarders showed FS Board Slides, 5050’s and FS Bluntslides - the freeskiers
impressed with 360° Switch Up’s oder 270’s on Rails.

The 10 „Lucky Ones“ each, who were drawn by lot to start at the Pro contest, were challenging the fixed starting field – the winners are as follows:
