Burton European Open 2010 kicking off in Laax, Switzerland

The preparations for the 11th Burton European Open are finalized. The hosting resort Laax and organizer Burton Snowboards are ready to kick off the event today with the youngest competitors of the week.

Traditionally the Juniors (up to 14 years) open the event with the Slopestyle Junior competition on Saturday, which will be followed by the Halfpipe Junior event on Sunday, before the adults take over the Burton European Open 2010. More than 400 riders from four continents will be gathering in Laax during the next 8 days.

50 boys registered for the Junior events, accompanied by 13 girls. These riders are the future of Snowboarding. The world’s current top riders like Mikkel Bang, Iouri Podladtchikov, Sebastien Toutant and Peetu Piiroinen all celebrated their first big victories at past BEO Junior events. Last year Swiss rider Patrick Burgener was the sensation of the Junior events, clearly dominating both Halfpipe and Slopestyle events and even managing to make it into the HP Men’s finals. Expect to see some progressive riding from these groms.

The programme is packed with 8 days filled with contests, culminating in the big Slopestyle finals on Friday, Jan. 15th, and the absolute highlight of the week, the Halfpipe finals on Saturday, Jan. 16th.

The 11th BEO will close with “The Sounds” live-in-concert on Saturday, Jan. 16th, in Riders Palace Club.

The Burton European Open is the second stop of the 2009/2010 Burton Global Open Series (BGOS) and a Swatch TTR 6Star event. The event-theme this year is “Circus” and a colourful, action-packed week here in LAAX, Switzerland awaits all riders, media and fans
