Luderitz Speed Challenge 2010 In Namibia

Since its inception the Luderitz Speed Sailing Challenge has been breaking records, however, the 2010 Lüderitz Speed Challenge will be the first event in the history of speed sailing to include the three different sailing disciplines - Boat, Windsurf and Kitesurfing.

For the first time, all three sport types: hydrofoil boat, windsurfing, kitesurfing will race together at the same event in Namibia.

The newest addition this year is a channel of 700m in length, 10m in width and 1m in depth, which will be dug in the "Second Lagoon", one of the fastest kiteboarding spots in the world.

The athletes are looking to push their limits and beat national and world records. One of these goals is to go faster than the “L’Hydroptère, the Hydrofoil boat” record which is presently held at 51.36 knots.

The event attracts people from all around the world. Many world records have been broken during the first three Luderitz Speed Challenges and the Challenge has played a vital role in the ranking of kitesurfers.

Sebastien Cattelan, pro kitesurfer and organizer of the Luderitz Speed Challenge 2010, has devoted himself to bringing speed kitesurfing to the next level.

"The sport has given me everything and I would like to give back to it," said Cattelan. "Kitesurfing for me is a reason to continue to train every day, keep fit, and fulfill my desire to push the limits further."

He answered: "Since becoming the first person to break the 50 knots speed barrier and organizing the Luderitz Speed Challenge I have earned the confidence of athletes who have participated in the Luderitz event."

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) who sanctions each event to officialize records will once again be present as in previous years of the 2010 Luderitz Speed Challenge.
