New School Gathering in November
For the 4th time since its inception, national and international freeski-pros and a multitude of amateurs and rookies will assemble at the New School Gathering to start a new winter together.
This years gathering will take place from November 21 till 23, 2008 and will offer every ingredient that makes a freeskier’s heart leap for joy: Three days of obstacle shredding in a world-class snow park, innovative competition formats, ski-movie premiers, awards to coveted titles, a ski-test and more - to cut a long story short: There will be lots of opportunities to have fun on and off snow.
Since it’s already ‘Open Park’ on Friday, athletes may use the perfectly shaped obstacles for training and photo or video shoots during the day, but the official inauguration of the 2008 Gathering happens at the Stadtkino Schladminger that evening. There, the Action Sports Award will be handed out to the ‘Freeskier of the Year’ for the first time in Austria. Following to the ceremony, the Headbud-Crew is going to present their newest production ‘Aevastation’ and the protagonists of the movie will be present to answer questions and sign posters after the screening.
On Saturday the highlight of the Gathering will take place as a fascinating show is guaranteed while riders compete for the titles of ‘Prince,’ ‘Queen’ and ‘King of the Gathering’ on the ‘Trail to the Throne’. A new format enables the competitors to use the whole park for their performance and an open qualification allows any and all ambitious freeskiers to participate.
Right after the contest the Ramsauer Waldschenke opens its gates for the “Après Jib”. In this traditionally Austrian ski hut the New School community will assemble in a chilled atmosphere to freshen up and refuel at the legendary Kaiserschmarrn-Schmausen (because as everyone knows, it’s better to partycipate with a full stomach!). After the winners of the respective categories have been announced at the price-giving ceremony, the party begins as DJ Phekt drops his finest Hip Hop-Beats into the night.
Traditionally, the New School Gathering ends on Sunday with the popular ‘Cash 4 Style’ Big Air Jam. Every aesthetic-rated trick is rewarded with money-in-hand immediately after stomping. This year the session will extend because riders can choose between different features and anyone with a stylish air-trick is welcome to show off their skills. Due to the fact that everybody likes to sleep-in after a long day of competing, the “Cash 4 Style” session will begin at noon.
Last Saturday almost 70 riders responded the call of the Burton AM Tour and united in the Snow Dome Bispingen in order to kick off the new season of the series.
The four winners of the King of Style Video Qualification have now been announced. Four American riders have progressed to the big air competition and will join the international stars already invited to the Peak Performance King of Style.
