July 10th, 2011 marks the day that Gus Kenworthy became the first person in the world to ever successfully land a double flip off of a rail. Watching this video is the only way to grasp the incredible nature of this impressive feat.
It was a clear July day at the Camp of Champions terrain park in Whistler, B.C., Canada when Gus Kenworthy set out to achieve something that no other has accomplished before. On Sunday, July 10th, 2011 Gus Kenworthy attempted to land a double flip off of a rail.
In order for Kenworthy to land trick the rail was placed atop a 3-foot-tall platform of snow with a 65 foot gap from the end of the rail to the beginning of the landing.
After a few hard crashes Kenworthy made history in the winter sports community by stomping a massive double misty 990 off the rail. Congratulations Mr. Kenworthy.
After dreaming of this day since they started skiing, a brother and sister team both achieved top honors at the 2011 The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series.
