White Air Festival 2009: Extreme Action on Brighton Beach
White Air is back for another year of insane sports action and live music from some of Britain’s biggest bands between 18th – 20th September 2009. White Air is moving to a new venue on Brighton’s fantastic sea front where there’s enough space to fully let rip on both land and sea.
White Air, Europe’s largest Extreme sports and Music festival, is now based at the world-famous Madeira Drive in Brighton, a fantastic site accommodating over 40 sports with events. The beach will be packed with action sports and entertainment including the world’s very best High divers throwing themselves into a 3m deep pool from a 30m board, the Mixed Martial Arts village and new action sports such as Slackline and Ropeboarding.
The sea will be occupied by Thundercats, Jetskis, Windsurfing Freestyle and Racing Championships, Surfing, Kitesurfing on the White Air slider park, Wakeboards, Paddle Boards, Sailing, Canoes, Aquathlon, the tough Brighton Triathlon, the 56 miles off road race starting in London and finishing at White Air in Brighton and Royal Marines fast support landing craft.
In the sky one will see the incredible Red Arrows and RAF Falcons – this year the elemental White Air festival covers Air, Water, Earth and Fire!
The live stage will feature Doves, Biffly Clyro, The Cribs, White Lies, British Sea Power, Lemonheads … and many more. Meanwhile, Europe’s largest action sports arena will showcase the amazing White Air Freesports Park, covering multiple sports with top level competitions and displays in BMX freestyle & flatland, Skateboard street, ramps and slalom, Mountain Board, Inline, Streetboard, Mtn Trials Bike & freestyle and Parkour, plus the stunning arts of Street Dance, B Bop, Graffiti Jams and park DJing.
At White Air everyone gets the opportunity to learn about all the sports and how to get started – some 5000 people tried a new sport for the first time at White Air last year, so why not join them this year?
There will be plenty for everyone to try including the chance to learn the art of Mountain Boarding, join in the Skate clinics, Parkour/Free Running, Thundercat Powerboats, Paragliding, Winddisc, learn the basics of Kitesurfing, Windsurfing and Surfing, have a go on the Mountain Bike trials course, get an introduction to Land yachting, Paddle Surfing, try the Aqua Skipper, Paramotoring, Bocking, Land Windsurfing and so much more!
For those who fancy something less energetic one can also learn all about some more sedate activities including street-art at the Graffiti workshop or Digital DJ Mixing with top pro DJs!
White Air was founded in 1997 by extreme sportsman and windsurfing champion Nigel Howell. Starting as a windsurfing event, it has rapidly expanded and is now the most prestigious international multi-sports festival on the extreme sports calendar involving some 40 sports on water, land, beach and in the air – and now includes the awesome Live Stage which features 2 huge nights of music by the beach front with top level groups.
