2011 iXS European Championships In Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt, Switzerland has been chosen as the venue for the first year of the iXS European Championships. The event is scheduled for August 27th and 28th, 2011.
As announced at the Eurobike tradeshow, iXS is going to organize the European Championships in both downhill and 4cross for the next three years. The official title is going to be „iXS European Championships“.
The challenging downhill track of the famous Matterhorn is going to be altered so that the finish line lies directly in the village. The 4cross track is situated at the Sunnegga paradise, at 2250 metres above sea level.
Spectators will get a unique panorama view in Zermatt, Switzerland with no less than 38 impressive peaks that rise to more than 4000 metres elevation.
The experience gathered from hosting downhill and 4cross races for a couple of years will help improve both the level and the reputation of these continental championships. A primary goal was to find venues situated in central Europe, making them easy to reach for most national teams.
The fact that next year’s World Championships will be held just one week later in nearby Champéry is helpful since it lowers travel expenses.
Zermatt and iXS guarantee an iXS European Championships that will be an unforgettable biking experience.
The first race in the history of the iXS downhill series in Eastern Europe was being held in the Czech Republic. Špičák, which is situated in the "Böhmerwald" national forest, presented a perfect event on a high organizational level.
One of the most beautiful races of the European series was staged last weekend in Pila. The cup’s penultimate race attracted 320 riders from 15 countries.
