ASA Big Air Triples 2010: Banasiewicz Nails 3 Double Front Flips
The 15 year old Brett Banasiewicz claimed the title at the 2010 ASA Big Air Triples by successfully landing three runs with double front flips.
The podium was completed by James Foster in second place, and Vince Byron, who tied with T.J. Ellis for third.
Brett Banasiewicz took full advantage of the Battle Back round after losing to Kyle Baldock in the event’s quarter-finals.
The Battle Back Round gives all of the riders who are defeated in Round 1 and the quarter-finals another chance to advance to the semi-final round as the Lucky Loser.
“[Before the competition] I thought I had a shot at winning, but I didn’t know I would,” said Banasiewicz.
Banasiewicz was matched up with Colton Satterfield and he knew that he had only one run to beat him. So, in a huge leap of faith, Banasiewicz attempted a double front flip for the first time in his life.
The successful landing was more than enough to advance him to the next bracket of the Battle Back Round against Austin Coleman and Mike Spinner.
Unfortunately, Coleman crashed during his Battle Back Round run, which made Spinner the only competitor in Banasiewicz's way to a semi-finals spot.
Hoping to ensure his victory at the 2010 event, Banasiewicz pulled off another double front flip, this time followed by a tail-whip over the second jump and a double tail-whip off the quarter-pipe.
The run advanced him past Spinner and brought him back into the main competition’s semi-finals round against Byron.
A third double front paved the way for Banasiewicz to the finals where he came face to face with Foster.
“Tonight was the first time I had ever tried the double-front,” revealed Banasiewicz. “I was with Napolitan recently and I watched him do it. And, I wanted to do something big for the fans and the ASA, so I thought, ‘why not’?”
Napolitan executed the first-ever double front flip at X Games 15.
With his stellar performance at the 2010 ASA Big Air Triples in Augusta, Georgia, Brett Banasiewicz has made BMX history.
